Job Description

As a Health and Safety Officer, you will play a pivotal role in promoting and ensuring a safe working environment. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Compliance and Standards: Ensure adherence to company safety regulations, safety standards, and conduct safety induction and training programs.
  2. Policy and Procedure Adherence: Promote and ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures within the organization.
  3. Legislative Compliance: Keep management informed about legislative requirements regarding health and safety, ensuring the company stays compliant.
  4. Safety Procedures and Training: Develop safety procedures and training programs to enhance safe working conditions.
  5. Emergency Procedures: Review and update emergency procedures as necessary to ensure preparedness.
  6. Site Inspections and Audits: Conduct site inspections and audits, identifying and minimizing risks to the company and employees.
  7. Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments: Conduct workplace Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments, designing and implementing responses.
  8. Accident Investigation: Investigate accidents, near-miss incidents, dangerous occurrences, or occupational diseases, implementing responses to prevent recurrence.
  9. Reporting: Compile and submit health and safety-related reports to management and third parties.
  10. Regulatory Liaison: Liaise with the Department of Employment and Labour as required, particularly regarding Sec 24 incidents.
  11. Contractor Monitoring: Monitor contractors and vendors on-site to ensure Health & Safety practices are applied at all times.

Qualifying Experience:

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess the following:

  • Education: Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Diploma/Certificate: National Diploma or Certificate in Safety Management or equivalent.
  • Experience: 3-5 years in a production/mining/construction environment (advantageous).
  • Registration: SACPCMP registration as CHSO.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Practical Approach: Hands-on practical approach to the job.
