Job Opportunity: EHS Officer at Gibela Transport Rail Consortium

Alstom’s Gibela Transport Rail Consortium is inviting qualified candidates to apply for the position of EHS Officer. Reporting to the TSSSA EHS Leader, this role is based in Springfield, KZN. The EHS Officer will play a crucial part in supporting the EHS Lead at the site level, ensuring that health, safety, and environmental activities align with regulatory, contractual, and company obligations.

Requirements:

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  1. Grade 12 qualification.
  2. National Diploma or BTech in Occupational Health and Safety.
  3. Recognized health and safety qualification (e.g., SAMTRAC).
  4. EHS systems implementation and an internal auditor’s certificate.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills in a multi-cultural environment.
  6. Computer literacy.
  7. Fluent in English.
  8. Knowledge of the railway industry is an added advantage.
  9. Minimum 2 years’ experience in Safety.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Providing advice, information, and instruction on site EHS issues.
  2. Monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations personnel safety.
  3. Assisting in the application and development of EHS procedures.
  4. Managing risks and hazards in their area.
  5. Reporting and facilitating the investigation of incidents, injuries, and hazards.
  6. Reviewing and analyzing injury and incident reports and data.
  7. Assisting in developing injury and incident prevention strategies for the site.
  8. Monitoring site compliance with EHS policy, procedures, and legal requirements.
  9. Auditing site EHS compliance with organizational and legal EHS requirements.
  10. Promoting EHS awareness.
  11. Carrying out EHS Officer inspections.
  12. Compiling toolbox talks for the site and disseminating EHS information.
  13. Organizing, assigning, and briefing EHS representatives, firefighters, and first aiders.
  14. Assisting in the acquisition of EHS equipment.
