Description
VACANCY: OPERATOR: BLENDING (DAYSHIFT)

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: FIXED TERM (6 MONTHS)
GRADE: B-LOWER
DIVISION: SMELTER
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this role is to execute and to ensure that SHEQ and quality standards are practiced. The Blending Operator is to work directly beneath the Smelter Blending Foreman.
The Operator executes the role of collecting bags to blend all the bags according to the charge list.
The Operator also assists in stock-take preparation to ensure that all material is accounted during the stock-count.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

RESOURCE PLANNING

The operator also ensures that the charge is blended according to the recipe to ensure that the melting can be obtained at the furnace.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

Ensure culture of working as a team to maximise blending outputs.

OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES
Drives timeous and accurate reporting through production logs & performance feedback on shift basis.
Ensures that all by-products generated are weighed and sent for sampling for metal balance purposes.
Ensure that daily production targets are achieved
The role of Blending Operator is the following but not limited to:

Materials and fluxes are collected, and homogeneity is maintained so that material blended on floor is according to charge calculator.
Silos are always full as required by arc furnace. Their material transfer to silos is defined and accurate, and stock levels are monitored. Charges are blended in time. Silos>1 overnight during weekdays, Silos>3 during weekends. Frequency of charge unavailability & working weekend 0%
Housekeeping standards are maintained high at smelter plant. All signs are conspicuously displayed, plant washed and stacking and storage standards.
Participation during stock count to ensure correct labelling and proper evaluation of units. No written-off bags found during stock count.
Smelter waste management
Will be required to work shifts when required

Implements methods & suggestions from the process leader (i.e. waste reduction, productivity, and cost management)

HEALTH AND SAFE
Ensure that there is full compliance with the SHEQ procedures for people and equipment and product

Requirements:
Preference will be given to a candidate that has a completed matric qualification.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
Can apply knowledge and skills required to perform a variety of primarily manual tasks
The ability to apply knowledge of basic clerical, operational or customer service skills acquired through education, experience or on the job training.
Computer literacy –MS office (Outlook, Word, Excel) SAP, Internet.
Good communication skills (verbal and written) to communicate technical knowledge to others.

Administrative skills- Able to effectively manage the administrative paperwork required.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Preference will be given to candidates that have 1 years’ experience in a smelting operation.
Production knowledge-Understand the production processes
Equipment knowledge- Fault detection abilities
SHEQ and radiation knowledge- Able to adhere to specified standards.
OEE knowledge- Understand the equipment
Thorough mechanical knowledge- Able to diagnose faults
Material handling and Metals accounting knowledge- Thorough understanding of equipment.
Process knowledge-Thorough understanding of processes
Scheduling knowledge- Able to effectively schedule work for others.
