What Will You Be Doing?
As an Apprentice Wheat Miller at Premier Durban Mill, you will:
- Complete Theoretical Courses: Engage in theoretical courses through SAGMA (South African Grain Milling Academy) while gaining practical experience in a milling environment.
- Work in Designated Areas: Collaborate in designated areas based on your learning modules to acquire practical experience, translating theoretical learning into hands-on understanding.
- Key Competencies: Learn and master key competencies of each department, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the milling supply chain.
- Operate a Mill: Under the guidance of the Production Manager/Head Miller, learn to operate a mill at designated capacity with optimum extractions, producing finished products fit for human consumption.
- Shifts and Training: The apprenticeship program spans three years, involving theoretical self-learning and practical application training. This includes working shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Qualification and Experience Requirements
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 (not older than 24 months)
- Mathematics (not Maths Literacy): 60% and above
- Physical Science: 60% and above
Experience:
- No prior experience required
- Skills and Competencies:
- Curious mindset with good problem-solving (reasoning) skills.
- Ability to operate in a pressurized environment.
- Team player with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Enjoy working with mechanical systems and technically inclined.
- Process orientation and a mindset for process improvement.
Key Outputs
As an Apprentice Wheat Miller, you will be expected to:
- Pass each SAGMA module at the prescribed rate.
- Possess a good knowledge of the relevant department/area in the milling supply chain, capable of performing required key tasks after completing each module.
- Execute any other tasks required by the Production Manager/Head Miller.
