PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
• The Artisan Boilermaker is responsible in repairing and building all steelwork, pipelines, chutes and parts of the plant requiring steel construction.
• The incumbent will be accountable to the Site Engineering Foreman. The incumbent will be required to work rotational shifts with other Boilermaker artisans to cover the Smelter business unit.
• Be able to work overtime when required to and adhere standby scheduling.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
MAINTENANCE
• Execute planned maintenance within specified time at a high quality and give feedback to the respective foreman to improve plant availability and reliability.
• Promptly attend to any breakdowns within the shift as and when required.
• Maintain a high quality of housekeeping.
• Manage all maintenance work orders issued to you on time to ensure that weekly and monthly KPIs are met.
• Assists in cost reduction initiatives by reducing waste and improving efficiencies.
• Compilation of own PDP in conjunction with line manager.
• Attend training interventions as per approved PDP.
• Ensure that you remain disciplined in line with the company’s code of conduct.
• Attend statutory training as may be required.
• Managing others by: Giving direction to assistants as may be required by your Foreman.
• Ensuring that all unsafe conditions are repaired timeously or to report to prevent any incidents or accidents.
OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES:
• Complete your daily SAP PM work orders on time and give feedback.
• Execute all work within expected acceptable levels of quality.
• Participate in Risk Assessments based on external and internal influences.
• Participate in incident investigations as may be required.
• Report any incidents to the supervisor and/or via the systems in use.
• Participate in any inspection or audit as may be required.
• Ensure that all steelwork in the plant is in working order in order to minimise downtime and faults.
• Identify, repair and perform effective maintenance on steelwork, pipes, shutes, cages etc. timeously and accurately (cutting and welding).
• Regularly perform proactive maintenance to deter any failures in adherence with scheduling
• Regularly perform planned maintenance on steelwork to deter any failures in adherence with scheduling.
• Strictly adhere to all SHEQ legislation regarding safety and machine maintenance. Produce safety cards as required.
• Liaise with contractors on site where necessary to ensure that the correct equipment procedures are always used for the plant. Prepare all requests for material required.
• Assist others where necessary in the maintenance of equipment and machinery and train other staff on the job where required.
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
• Monitor and share Company-wide similarities/learning opportunities.

• Comply with and ensure that all health and safety rules are met and act pro-actively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees.

• Adhere to PPE requirements as per area of work.
• Strictly adhere to the PTW process and ensure one minute risk assessments are done regularly and perform lockouts on systems where required.
• Housekeeping is essential and should be done on a continuous basis.
• A job is not finished until the house keeping has been done.
QUALITY:
• Maintain a high level of workmanship.
• Assists in cost reduction initiatives by reducing waste and improving efficiencies.
• Waste management and good housekeeping in the area of responsibility.
PROCUREMENT:
• Provide technical input where required in sourcing parts, spares and equipment required for general maintenance to ensure cost efficiency.
Requirements:
• Minimum qualification of N2 is required or equivalent in Mechanical with a recognised Trade Test certificate as a Boilermaker. Preference will be given to candidates with qualifications higher than N3.
• Beneficial to have second trade such as Millwright Trade Test (Red Seal)
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
• Proficient computer literacy of MS Word, Outlook, MS Excel, SAP, QlikView and CURA.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• Preference will be given to candidates with 2-5 years steel construction knowledge, building techniques, design drawings, building and steelwork construction compliance.
• Preferably in a Smelter or similar environment.
