ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To comply with Mines and Works Act, by rendering a service of issuing cap lamps, rescue packs and testers. Equipment issued must meet the minimum operating requirements, also responsible for change house logistics like the supply of soap, visitor PPE and allocation and control of lockers and lamps for every underground employee. The Lampsman also controls the shifts of the cage operators.

Responsibilities:
• Equipment management and maintenance
• Record keeping
• Issuing and controlling of shaft lockers in change houses
• Responsible for issuing PPE and getting change houses ready for visitors
• Work on the control of cage operators according to shifts which is a critical function
• Tracking and updating of systems on computer.
• Audits done with Safety department on surface as well as with Occupational hygienist

Requiremnents:
• Grade 12
• Lamproom experience
• Lampsman Certificate as issued by the OEM

Knowledgeable on Lamproom equipment
• Gas detection instrument
• Self-contained self-rescuers(SCSR’s)
• Portable lamps
Appointed competent person is to receive and handle explosives
